Tan Qin macht seinen Doktor am GPI in Karlsruhe. Er absolvierte seinen Bachelor in Explorationstechnologie und Ingenieurswesen an der Yangtze Universität in Wuhan, China. Als Gastwissenschaftler besuchte er von November 2017 bis April 2018 die Universität in Florenz, Italien. Seinen Master machte er in Geophysik an der Tongji Universität in Shanghai, China.
