Leon Merkel conducts research in applied geophysics and seismology. At the GPI, he is responsible for the following areas:

• Development, construction and test of electronic modules
• Repair and maintenance of measuring technology
• Borrowing laboratory equipment, field measurement technology and accessories
• Implementation of field work
