Abstract
Planned extraction of the nuclear waste from Asse II is necessary for safe deescalation of the mines current nuclear waste hazard. Through imaging of the mine and its overburden, safe waste retrieval can be optimized through planned tunnel expansion. Using data provided by the Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung, a synthetic subsurface model referred to in this presentation as the "Asse II Mine Model" was developed.
Through inverse simulations, the integrity and potential modelling limits of acoustic full waveform inversion (FWI) parameters were determined. The final inversions were low error results that showed accurate reconstruction and good model resolution. These determined parameters could be used for the expansion of FWI to 3D data and field data.
