Abstract

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) plays a vital role in mitigating carbon emissions, but accurate prediction of CO2 saturation remains a key challenge. Traditional methods rely on assumed fluid distribution models, often leading to large uncertainties in saturation estimation. In this work, we develop a physics-guided, capillary pressure-based rock physics model that predicts CO2 saturation without any prior assumption about fluid distribution states.

We demonstrate this approach on the Quest CCS site in Alberta and the Sleipner field in the North Sea, showing its potential for more reliable subsurface CO2 characterization and monitoring.
